On June 28, the Utrecht Archive opened in its new home in the old Court House on the Hamburgerstraat. Here the past comes surprising close not only through the wealth of archival material, but also through the building itself with its 11th century walls and wine cellar. The archive is structured to allow the visitors to become acquainted with famous and not so famous Utrechters, as well as their own family history, neighborhood or house.
With a personal in log card visitors collect facts that are saved in the form of a historical newspaper. Those who want to discover Utrecht again can make use of the study centre where historic films, old street scenes and growth maps are at the disposal of the curious. The archive also contains a Museum store, education centre and small theater.
