Young Henry
Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, UK, 2007

The story unfolds in the first room with a multimedia presentation introducing the three primary characters responsible for shaping the early reign of Henry VIII. The narrative of Prince Henry, Queen Katherine and Cardinal Wolsey continues in the Wolsey suite and adjoining Tudor rooms. Ever changing relationships and alliances between the three are portrayed by throne like chairs. Short texts engraved on the chair backs give visitors an insight into that character’s perspective on the state of affairs. Graphic carpets help direct the visitor through the space, making clear connections between characters and events.Key historical paintings displayed in the rooms bring more depth to the subject, interpreting the personalities and events. Interactive touchscreens in front of each work give visitors, both adult and children, the opportunity to explore the paintings while learning details that make the narrative more dynamic. Surface area: 400 m2
