Emma Kinderziekenhuis AMC second phase
Amsterdam, 2013

The Emma Kinderziekenhuis wards for oncology, teenagers and children to 12 open their doors to patients. The architects from OD205 are responsible for architectural design and OPERA Amsterdam for the interior design. The new spaces are bright with each ward represented by its own color palette and illustrations. The layout of the public spaces and wards creates a balance between areas with little sensory stimulation, where the child can withdraw to and enjoy privacy, and areas off the Parade where children can seek out more stimulation with opportunities to interact with other children and various group games. Children can choose to meet up at the playground or teen lounge, enjoy the company of the funny creatures hiding in the kinect wall or play a game of fuse ball or ping-pong.
