OPERA Ruimtelijk Ontwerpers has changed its name to OPERA Amsterdam: a name that lends itself better to an international environment. OPERA Amsterdam has grown over the past 15 years into an internationally renowned design agency, specializing in 3D environments for museums, retail and corporate interiors.

In 2008, OPERA Amsterdam was approached by Prof. Jatti Bredekamp, director of the IZIKO Museum Group in Cape Town, South Africa. His request was  ‘to develop an integrated conceptual plan for exhibitions at IZIKO Museums in Cape Town’ in partnership with IZIKO. OPERA Amsterdam has asked Max Meijer of TiMe Amsterdam to assist in analyzing the conceptual aspects of this question.

In co-operation with the BNO, OPERA Amsterdam welcomes 16 designers from India to their studio in Amsterdam. Peter Kersten will act as their guide during their stay in Amsterdam. 

OPERA Amsterdam welcomes a delegation of designers from China. Presentations and debates were held at the Amsterdam studio, led by Ying Shen.

Victoria & Albert Museum in London appointed OPERA Amsterdam to design the reinstallation of their ceramic galleries phase II. The 950 m2 visible study collection contains 26.500 objects located on the top level of the museum.

In close co-operation with the V & A staff we developed a concept where all objects are on display, visible and – on demand – available to: curators, specialists and the general public. Completion is expected in the spring of 2010.

Following the opening of stores in Utrecht (winner of the Master Card Retail Design Award 2004) and  's-Hertogenbosch, OPERA Amsterdam delivers the third 'De Rode Winkel'. one in chain of blue jeans stores spread throughout Holland.

Clients Erik Kuijsten en Thom Broekman once again gave OPERA ‘carte blanche’ in designing the store in Houten. The stores are not recognizable as a chain, but share the same design mentality and entrepreneurship.

‘Music in Motion’ opens today at the National Museum of Ethnology. Minister Plasterk (education, culture and science) will be there to open the exhibition. The design created by OPERA Amsterdam uses multimedia and interactive elements extensively throughout. OPERA’s director Frans Bevers co-curated the exhibition in close co-operation with Ken Vos, Rnul and Herman de Boer-films. The exhibition is open through 23 August 2009.
